Kansas State Pummels North Dakota State

MANHATTAN, Kan.--Kansas State pounded out 25 runs on 26 hits to defeat North Dakota State 25-1 in the first of a two-game college baseball series Monday, March 14, at Tointon Stadium.
The Wildcats (11-5) raced out of the gate with four runs in the first inning and four more in the second. The 25 runs were the third most North Dakota State (0-11-1) has ever allowed and the most since the 28-20 loss at South Dakota State in 1996.
Eight of K-State's nine starters had at least two hits, led by left fielder Brandon Farr and right fielder Steve Murphy, who each hit 4-for-6.
Bison first baseman Kole Zimmerman was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, and NDSU catcher Gavin Hofer also was 2-for-4.
NDSU scored its only run in the top of the sixth inning when Zimmerman tripled off the center field fence and Jared Sullivan followed with an RBI ground out to shortstop.
Matt Mossey and Matt Freudenthal doubled for the Bison, and Reid Arnold and Ryan Langlais each collected base hits.
North Dakota State starter Terry Tchida pitched into the second inning and was tagged with his third loss of the season. Tchida allowed eight runs on six hits while walking four and striking out two.
K-State's Brett Muegge was the winner with four scoreless innings. He surrendered three hits and struck out two.
Game 2 of the series is scheduled for 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 15.
