Walks Hurt Bison as Missouri Completes Four-Game Sweep

COLUMBIA, Mo.--North Dakota State's pitching staff walked 18 batters and eight of those runners scored as Missouri took the fourth and final game of the teams' college baseball series 13-3 at Taylor Stadium on Sunday, March 20.
NDSU (0-16-1) lost for the ninth straight game. Missouri (17-4) won its ninth straight contest and wrapped up its 12-game home stand with an 11-1 record.
After Missouri scored two runs in the bottom of the first, the Bison tied it in the top of the second on Nathan Thomas' two-run single to right field.
North Dakota State pulled within 4-3 in the top of the fourth inning when Tim Erickson doubled home Greg Plecki, but Missouri tacked on two runs in the fourth inning, three in the sixth and four more in the eighth for the final margin.
Erickson finished 3-for-5 in the leadoff spot for North Dakota State. He was the first Bison player other than freshman shortstop Matt Mossey to lead off this season.
Thomas finished 1-for-4 and designated hitter Matt Freudenthal was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
NDSU starting pitcher Jay Mitchell worked three innings, allowing five runs on two hits. He fanned one batter, walked nine, and dropped to 0-2 on the season.
Terry Tchida, Matt Erzar, Pat Thielke and Tyler Gagner combined to finish the game.
Mizzou right-hander Abel Newton worked four innings and won for the second straight outing. He allowed three runs on five hits, walked three and struck out two to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Right fielder Jacob Priday was 2-for-5 with two runs and four RBIs to lead the Tigers' attack.
North Dakota State is scheduled to conclude its 11-game, 13-day road swing with single games Tuesday, March 22, and Wednesday, March 23, at Creighton University in Omaha, Neb. Game time both days is 2:30 p.m.
