OMAHA, Neb.--North Dakota State rallied for three runs with two outs in the first inning, but the Bison managed just two hits the rest of the way in a 5-3 college baseball loss at Creighton on Saturday, March 17.
North Dakota State catcher Gavin Hofer doubled in the game's first run and two batters later a Ryan Langlais single plated Hofer and Sebastian Miles with unearned runs to make it 3-0.
Creighton pushed across a run in the bottom of the first and tied the game at 3 in the fourth on a two-run double by Brett Mieras.
Bluejay starter Zak Moore responded by striking out the side in the fifth, and Moore (1-1) picked up seven of his career-high 10 strikeouts in the fifth through eighth innings while not allowing a Bison runner past first base.
Creighton cleanup hitter Darin Ruf's solo homer off NDSU reliever Ben Mathiason (0-2) in the seventh held up as the game-winning hit, and the Bluejays squeezed in an insurance run in the eighth on Robbie Knight's bunt single.
North Dakota State starter Jeff Hille allowed three runs on four hits in six innings of work, striking out two and walking none.
The teams are scheduled to close out their four-game series with a doubleheader Sunday, March 18, beginning at noon.
