IOWA CITY, Iowa--North Dakota State shortstop Matt Mossey was 2-for-3 with two RBIs in a 5-3 loss at Iowa in college baseball Saturday, March 24.
Mossey's two-run double in the seventh off Iowa reliever Mike Jacobs tied the game at 3. Jacobs blew the save, but became the winning pitcher when the Hawkeyes (8-5) scratched across two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Iowa closer Mike Schurz struck out two of the three batters he faced in the ninth for his second save of the season. Schurz struck out four for the victory in Friday's 11-inning series opener.
Right fielder Shannon Ekermans was 2-for-4 for the Bison (2-12), who lost their 10th straight game.
NDSU's Jeff Hille (0-3) was the losing pitcher in his longest start of the year. Hille worked 6 2/3 innings and was responsible for all five runs, only three of them earned, while scattering eight hits, walking two and striking out two.
The start of the game was delayed 2 hours and 15 minutes due to rain.
The teams will close out the four-game series Sunday, March 25, with a single nine-inning game beginning at 1 p.m.
