FARGO, N.D. - A school-record home crowd of 1,267 was on hand as North Dakota State swept a college baseball doubleheader from North Dakota by scores of 3-1 and 7-3 at Newman Outdoor Field on Saturday, March 31.
NDSU starter Bryant Larson pitched six innings with six strikeouts, Glenn Parker pitched two scoreless innings of relief and Simon Anderson tossed a scoreless ninth for his first save of the season in the opener.
The Bison got the eventual winning run in the fourth when Wes Satzinger drew a leadoff walk, moved to third on a misplayed bunt, and scored on Blake Turbak's sacrifice fly to make it 2-1.
NDSU tacked on an insurance run in the sixth when Nick Anderson drew a one-out walk, moved to second on Max Casper's bunt single, and scored on Nick Colwell's single put the middle.
Casper was 3-for-4 and Colwell was 2-for-5 in the first game for NDSU. Riley Beck was 2-for-4 for UND. Both teams left 11 runners on base.
NDSU's Luke Anderson threw his third complete game of the year in the seven-inning nightcap and had six strikeouts while upping his record to 5-0.
The Bison scored twice in the first inning and twice in the second to open up a 4-0 lead before UND got three in the third on back-to-back two-out doubles from Jeff Campbell and Mark Bearmon.
NDSU answered with three runs in the fifth. Nick Anderson delivered an RBI single and the Bison scored two on a wild strikeout that should've ending the inning.
Catcher Zach Trygstad's throw hit Casper in the back of the head after the dropped strike three and bounded into right field allowing Turbak to score, and Anderson came in all the way from first after Bearmon's throw to get Casper at second base bounced away.
Colwell was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Satzinger went 2-for-4 in the second game, and Tim Colwell hit his school-record seventh triple before scoring in the first inning. He finished 2-for-4.
The games, which were originally scheduled to be played in the Metrodome, were played under mostly sunny skies and temperatures around 70 degrees. NDSU broke its home attendance mark of 1,079 from the Minnesota game May 10, 2008.
North Dakota State has won 11 straight games, which is a school single-season record for consecutive victories and ties the overall mark of 11 games over two seasons by the 1909 and 1910 Bison teams.
The fourth game of the NDSU-UND series is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday, April 1, at Kraft Field in Grand Forks before the Bison return home to host Valley City State at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 3.
