Mt. SAC Relays Results
Bryan Clay Invitational Results
WALNUT, Calif. – North Dakota State junior Erin Teschuk shows no signs of slowing down.
On Friday evening in southern California, Teschuk claimed a Mt. SAC Relays championship and posted an NCAA-leading performance, running 9:43.83 in the 3000m steeplechase. Her time ranks her sixth in the world this year.
The Winnipeg, Manitoba, native sliced nearly 36 seconds off the previous NDSU school record in the event, teammate Maddie Van Beek's time of 10:19.39 three seasons ago.
Perhaps most significantly, Teschuk put herself in position to earn a bid to the IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China, in August. With the world qualifying standard set at 9:44.00, Teschuk has now achieved the required time. All that's left is to finish among the top three Canadians in the event this year, and only one Canadian woman has run faster over the last three years.
Teschuk cut 40 seconds off her previous personal-best time in the steeplechase.
In the same race as Teschuk, Van Beek took a fall in the water pit and still managed to beat her previous school-record time, finishing in 10:16.22. Thus, tonight's race yielded the top two times in NDSU history.
In the same event at a different meet on Friday – the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. – Bison sophomore Taylor Janssen ran 10:39.11 in the steeplechase to rank fifth-fastest all-time at NDSU.
Junior Sierra Rosenau missed setting her third javelin school record in the last 14 days by one inch, throwing 164-2 (50.05m) for the second-best toss of her career. She finished third in the collegiate section at Mt. SAC.
NDSU junior Melissa Kitching ran a career-best 59.53 in the 400m hurdles for fourth place in the collegiate section at Mt. SAC, moving her up to fourth all-time at NDSU in the event.
Sophomore Amy Andrushko recorded a personal-best 800m time of 2:09.53, placing 13th at Mt. SAC. Bison freshman Alexis Woods ran a personal-best 56.17 in the 400m dash.
Bison throwers Emily Lesser, Katelyn Weimerskirch and Courtney Pasiowitz finished 8th, 10th and 11th, respectively, in the hammer throw at Mt. SAC.
Junior Brittany Stangl cleared 12-04.00 (3.76m) to finish fifth in the pole vault at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Amber Riopelle was fifth in the javelin with a mark of 138-3 (42.14m).
NDSU will conclude its four-day stretch of competition on Saturday at the Beach Invitational in Norwalk, Calif.
