Kitching, Milbrath Win Titles for Bison Women at Beach Invitational

NORWALK, Calif. – North Dakota State junior Melissa Kitching captured the 400m hurdles title at the Beach Invitational on Saturday afternoon, finishing in a personal-best time of 58.65 seconds to highlight the efforts of the Bison women's track & field team.
Kitching, a Winnipeg, Manitoba, native, had personal-best performances on back-to-back days in the 400m hurdles, as she also ran 59.53 yesterday at the Mt. SAC Relays. She now ranks among the top 30 in the NCAA this season and second in school history behind All-American Whitney Carlson in the event.
Senior Ashley Heinze was close behind Kitching, crossing the line in 59.79 for a fourth-place finish and the second-fastest time of her career.
Bison sophomore Morgan Milbrath also claimed an event championship at the Beach Invitational, winning the 400m dash in 54.14 seconds. Milbrath cut 0.49 seconds off her collegiate-best in the event and ranks sixth in NDSU history. The Minot, N.D., native also clocked 24.62 in the 200m dash.
Sophomore Lexy Boschee and junior Ann Govig both cleared 5-07.00 (1.70m) in the high jump, with Boschee finishing in a tie for third place. Govig's jump was a new personal best.
Sophomore Deidre Hahn placed 15th in the 400m dash on Saturday with a time of 56.02.
Senior Emily Lesser took 10th place in the women's invitational shot put at the Mt. SAC Relays with a top throw of 51-08.25 (15.75m).
NDSU alum and 7-time USA champion Amanda Smock captured the Mt. SAC Relays triple jump title with a leap of 45-06.25 (13.87m).
