Bison Women Get Started at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa – The North Dakota State women's track & field team opened competition at the Drake Relays on Friday and posted several strong performances.
NDSU junior Sierra Rosenau claimed an impressive finish in the javelin, taking third overall and second among collegians with a throw of 163-2 (49.73m) on her final attempt of the day. The event was won by American record holder Kara (Patterson) Winger.
Sophomore Morgan Milbrath clocked a personal-best 59.68 in the 400m hurdles for eighth place at the Drake Relays and fifth all-time at North Dakota State. With Melissa Kitching (2nd), Ashley Heinze (3rd) and Milbrath (5th), three of the five fastest 400m hurdlers in NDSU history are current Bison. All three are in position to qualify for the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds at the end of May.
The 4x400m relay team of Deidre Hahn, Kitching, Heinze & Milbrath raced their way onto the Bison all-time best list with a time of 3:39.76, making them the ninth-fastest team in NDSU history. They placed ninth in the meet, missing the finals by one spot.
Jenny Guibert, Amy Andrushko, Kitching & Erin Teschuk ran 8:45.89 in the 4x800m relay for seventh place in the meet and third-fastest in NDSU history.
Emily Lesser finished sixth in the shot put with a mark of 50-06.25 (15.40m), and Courtney Pasiowitz took 12th at 48-05.50 (14.77m).
Sophomore Lexy Boschee took sixth place in the high jump with a clearance of 5-06.00 (1.68m). Sophomore Katelyn Weimerskirch placed seventh in the discus with a toss of 158-2 (48.22m).
Bison sophomore Amy Andrushko opened the Drake Relays for the NDSU women by recording a personal-best time of 2:09.21 in the 800m on Thursday afternoon.
A pair of future Bison throwers, Shelby Gunnells and Maddie Nilles, had strong performances in the Iowa high school all-classes-combined competition. Gunnells (Solon HS) won her second consecutive Drake Relays title in the shot put, and Nilles (Dubuque Wahlert HS) earned a runner-up finish in the discus. Both have signed with NDSU and will join the Bison in the fall of 2015.
At the Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola, Iowa, freshman Alexis Woods won the 400m dash title in 57.06. Redshirt freshman Dustlynn Kaine was third in the 100m dash in 12.50 seconds. Sophomore Allie Lahren posted a season-best leap of 18-02.25 (5.54m) in the long jump for fifth place.
NDSU will conclude competition at the Drake Relays on Saturday.
