NDSU Women’s Track & Field Starts NCAA Prelims Thursday with Largest Group Yet

Meet Information
The North Dakota State University women's track & field team will send 13 athletes to the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds with a total of 16 entries, once again marking the largest contingent of national qualifiers in the school's Division I history. The meet will be hosted by the University of Texas in Austin, Texas, on May 28-30.
The previous high in qualifiers for the Bison women was 11, achieved last season.
Only three women's teams outside of the Power 5 conferences are sending at least 16 entries to the NCAA Prelims – North Dakota State, Colorado State and UCF.

How to Advance
The top 12 finishers in each event at the Preliminary Rounds will advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 10-13.
In the discus, shot put, javelin and hammer throw, all 48 competitors will receive a single round of three attempts. The top 12 marks overall advance to the NCAA Championships.
In the 800m run and 400m hurdles, the top three finishers from each heat plus the next six fastest times (24) will advance to the quarterfinals. The top three finishers from each heat plus the next three fastest times (12) will advance to the NCAA Championships.
In the high jump, the top 12 jumpers based on performance after tiebreakers and possibly a jump-off will qualify for the NCAA Championships.
In the 3,000m steeplechase, the top three from three quarterfinal heats, plus the next three fastest times (12), advance to the NCAA Championships.
In the 4x400m relay, the top three teams from three quarterfinal heats, plus the next three fastest times (12), advance to the NCAA Championships.
Elite Throws Program
The Bison women have eight entries in the throwing events for the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds, which is tied for the fourth-most in the nation behind only Texas A&M, Minnesota and Southern Illinois.
Steady Progression
NDSU is sending a record number of women to the NCAA Preliminary Rounds for the third straight year.

Last Year
Last season, NDSU qualified five athletes in four events to the NCAA Championships finals site in Eugene, Ore. Along with the 4x400m relay, the Bison women sent Antoinette Goodman in the 200m, Deborah John in the 100m hurdles, and Paige Stratioti in the 800m.
Sweet 16
The Bison women have captured 16 consecutive Summit League team titles – eight indoor and eight outdoor. NDSU has won every conference team title since joining the league prior to the 2008 season.
