NDSU Women Compete at SDSU Last Chance Meet

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The North Dakota State women's track & field team had several athletes compete at the SDSU Last Chance meet held inside the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex on Friday afternoon.
The Bison took three of the top four places in the pole vault, with senior Anna Benke clearing 13-05.25 (4.10m) for the win. Senior Brittany Stangl was the runner-up with 12-11.50 (3.95m), and sophomore Lauren Gietzen matched her personal-best by clearing 12-05.50 (3.80m) for fourth place in the meet.
Benke, Stangl and Gietzen rank second, third and seventh, respectively, in NDSU indoor history in the pole vault. Benke is ranked 33rd in the NCAA this season.
NDSU junior Christina Bruenjes placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 36-06.75 (11.14m).
Sophomore Gabby Grommesh clocked 7.95 seconds in the 60m dash for sixth place. Freshman Alaysia Freetly ran the mile in 5:15.88 for sixth place.
NDSU assistant coach and Olympian Trevor Barry jumped 7-04.50 (2.25m) to win the high jump.
The Bison will compete at the Summit League Indoor Championships next weekend in Fort Wayne, Ind., on Feb. 26-27.
