NDSU Women’s Track & Field Posts Record Score for 9th Straight Summit League Outdoor Title

VERMILLION, S.D. – The North Dakota State women's track & field team totaled a league record 311 points to capture its ninth consecutive Summit League outdoor title on Saturday afternoon at the Lillibridge Track Complex. The Bison women won by a 97-point margin over second-place South Dakota.
NDSU has now won 18 straight Summit League team championships – nine indoor and nine outdoor – since joining the conference prior to the 2008 season.
Junior thrower Katelyn Weimerskirch was named the Championships Field MVP after winning her third consecutive league title in the discus on Saturday. For the meet, Weimerskirch claimed league crowns in the hammer throw and discus and placed third in the shot put for a total of 26 team points.
Freshman thrower Shelby Gunnells earned the Newcomer of the Championships award after placing second in the hammer throw, fifth in the shot put and seventh in the javelin. NDSU head coach Stevie Keller was named Summit League Coach of the Year for the second year in a row.
A trio of Bison women defended their individual league titles from last season on Saturday.
Senior Melissa Kitching defended her Summit League title in the 400m hurdles, running 59.29 for the win. Junior Amy Andrushko won her second straight outdoor conference championship in the 800m, clocking 2:09.55. Senior Erin Teschuk captured the 1500m to go along with her first-place finish in the steeplechase on Friday night.
Kitching, Morgan Milbrath, Alexis Woods and Andrushko won NDSU's ninth straight outdoor league title in the 4x400m relay.
Milbrath claimed a runner-up finish in the 400m dash in 54.21, and Woods clocked a personal-best 55.14 for third place to rank 10th on the NDSU all-time list in the event.
The Bison women scored 26 points in the discus with a 1-2-4-6 finish. Behind Weimerskirch, freshman Maddy Nilles placed second, sophomore Kelsey Laufenberg threw a PR for fourth, and Jordyn Thornton finished sixth.
Junior Rose Jackson placed third in the 200m dash in 24.17 and finished fourth in the 100m dash in a wind-aided 11.78 seconds. Jenny Guibert finished third in the 800m in 2:11.87 as NDSU scored 16 points in the event.
Redshirt freshman Brittany Brownotter earned an All-Summit League finish in the 1500m, taking third place behind Teschuk in 4:37.39. Freshman Kayla Huhnerkoch was fifth in 4:37.97.
The Bison women placed three in the 5,000m. Freshman Emma Kusch Dahle finished third in 17:16.52, Brownotter was fifth, and Taylor Janssen took seventh.
Sophomore Amanda Levin was fifth in the 400m hurdles in 1:03.78. Junior Allie Lahren claimed sixth in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 37-09.50 (11.52m).
