The North Dakota State University women's track & field team returns from the holiday break to host the Bison Classic on Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Shelly Ellig Indoor Track & Field Facility on the NDSU campus.
Teams expected to compete include South Dakota State, North Dakota, MSU Moorhead, Northern State, the University of Mary and the University of Manitoba, along with the host Bison.
The men's weight throw will get things started at 11 a.m., with the women's weight throw to follow. The long jump and pole vault are scheduled to start at 1 p.m. Running events will begin at 2 p.m. with prelims in the 60m hurdles.
The Bison women enter the 2017 season as the favorite to earn their league-record 10th consecutive Summit League indoor team championship.
NDSU returns 11 individual all-league performers who placed among the top three in their respective events at the 2016 Summit League Indoor Championships: Amy Andrushko, Brittany Brownotter, Jenny Guibert, Shelby Gunnells, Taylor Janssen, Allie Lahren, Kelsey Laufenberg, Amanda Levin, Morgan Milbrath, Courtney Pasiowitz and Katelyn Weimerskirch.
NDSU's defending league champs include Weimerskirch in the weight throw, Pasiowitz in the shot put, and Andrushko in the 800m. The Bison also return three members of the squad that won a conference title in the 4x400m relay with Milbrath, Rose Jackson and Alexis Woods.
Following strong marks at the season-opening Dakota Classic on Dec. 2, Jackson (pentathlon), Weimerskirch (weight throw), Milbrath (400m) and Pasiowitz (shot put) each rank among the top 10 in the NCAA this season.
