SCENE SETTER: The North Dakota State University baseball team is scheduled to host the Valley City State University Vikings in a non-league game on Tuesday, May 2, at 6:30 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field. The contest is the first of seven straight home games and the final non-Summit League game of the regular season.
MEDIA COVERAGE: Tuesday's game will air live on Bison 1660 AM, 92.7 FM, Bison1660.com and the Bison 1660 app. Jeff Culhane will call the action with Keith Brake providing color commentary. The contest will also be televised live, statewide on BEK Prime. In addition, a pay-per-view video webcast and free live stats will be available at GoBison.com.
SERIES RECORD: Tuesday's contest against VCSU will mark the 74th meeting in the all-time series that dates back to 1909. NDSU leads the series, 53-20, after claiming a 6-5 win over the Vikings last season.

LIND NAMED NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Senior RHP Luke Lind was named one of Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's National Players of the Week for May 1. Lind fired a one-hit shutout with a career-high 11 strikeouts in a 3-0 nine-inning victory at South Dakota State on Friday, April 28. It was the first one-hitter for NDSU baseball since Mike Peschel in 2002 and the first nine-inning complete-game shutout since John Straka and David Ernst posted back-to-back complete-game shutouts in 2013.
MAKING THE PLAYS: In NDSU's 21 Summit League games, the Bison have a .973 team fielding percentage -- second-best in the league behind Oral Roberts -- and have turned a league-best 26 double plays. NDSU also leads the league in overall double plays and ranks 31st in the latest NCAA Division I national statistics with 41 double plays in 42 games. The Bison are four double plays away from tying the NDSU single-season record, which was set back in 1996 and matched in 2010.
HOSTETLER'S BANNER WEEKEND: Freshman shortstop Bennett Hostetler hit .308 and tallied his first collegiate home run -- a grand slam -- in North Dakota State's three-game series at South Dakota State April 28-29. The Bozeman, Mont., native cleared the bases with a grand slam to left field in the Bison's 11-4 win over the Jackrabbits in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday, April 29, in Brookings. During that contest, he posted three hits, two runs scored, four RBIs, a homer and stolen base.
BUSCH PRODUCING AT THE PLATE: Junior outfielder Logan Busch has a 13 game hitting and 18 game on-base streak entering Tuesday's game. At South Dakota State April 28-29, Busch hit a team-best .385 with five hits and two doubles.
ROHDE ROLLING: Freshman infielder Tucker Rohde is hitting .375 with nine hits, five runs, a double and three RBIs in his last eight games. In the Bison's 10-2 win over Omaha April 22, the Scottsdale, Ariz., native went 3-for-5 at the plate with two runs and an RBI.
ABERCROMBIE ACCELERATING IN THE BATTER'S BOX: In his last 10 games, sophomore outfielder Alec Abercrombie is hitting .393 with 11 hits, six runs scored, two doubles, seven RBIs, five walks and four stolen bases. On the season, the Shoreview, Minn., native is second on the team with six stolen bases in seven attempts.
DOUBLE DIGIT DOUBLES: Junior infielder Mason Pierzchalski has hit a team-best 11 doubles this season. In the most recent Summit League statistics, Pierzchalski is tied for eighth in doubles.
PITCHING CONSISTENCY: Bison RHP Reed Pfannenstein has compiled a 1.73 ERA and is 4-0 in his last five appearances and starts on the mound. In 36.1 innings, he has allowed only seven earned runs on 26 hits with 21 strikeouts and 10 walks.
HARMS SHUTTING DOWN OPPONENTS: In his last five starts, RHP Jordan Harms has allowed just six earned runs (eight total runs) on 23 hits with 22 strikeouts in 28.1 innings. Entering the week, he ranks fourth in The Summit League with a 3.26 ERA.
CLOSING THE DOOR: NDSU right-handed closer Kevin Folman leads the team and is third in The Summit League with six saves in 16 relief appearances. The Hermantown, Minn., native has allowed only six earned runs on 15 hits with 15 strikeouts and six walks in 20.2 innings.

NDSU was third, followed by Omaha (13 points), Western Illinois (nine points) and Fort Wayne (eight points).
THE COACH: Tod Brown (Arizona, 1994) enters his 10th season as the head coach for the Bison and has a 236-270 record at NDSU. Brown previously was the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator for eight seasons at Bowling Green, where he was part of two division titles and a regular-season title in the Mid-American Conference. Brown began his collegiate coaching career in 1999 as a volunteer assistant at Arizona. He was a left-handed pitcher for the Wildcats under Hall of Fame coach Jerry Kindall and a member of the 1992 Pac-10 champs.
