
Anderson, Sertic Named to 2017 Summit League Softball All-Academic Team

ELMHURST, Ill. – North Dakota State first baseman Vanessa Anderson and pitcher Jacquelyn Sertic were named to the 2017 Summit League Softball All-Academic Team announced Wednesday, May 31, by the league office. The nine-member team is voted on by the institution's faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors. Sertic was selected for the second straight season.
Anderson, a sophomore from Rochester, Minn. (Byron H.S.) maintains a 3.88 G.P.A. majoring in exercise science. Anderson finished the season hitting .268 with 14 home runs and 43 runs batted in. She scored 39 runs, drew 30 walks and smacked five doubles. Anderson was named to the Summit League all-tournament team.
Sertic, a junior from Sparks, Nev. (Reed H.S.), maintains a 3.63 G.P.A. major in zoology (pre-med). She compiled a 19-24 record overall with five shutouts, two saves and 2.78 earned run average. Sertic struck out 340 batters and walked only 82 in 292.1 innings pitched. She is a two-time all-Summit League first team selection and earned NFCA All-Midwest Region honors for the second straight season.
North Dakota State finished the season with a 29-33 record overall. The Bison won their fourth straight and eighth Summit League tournament championship overall to advance to the NCAA tournament. NDSU knocked off defending champion Oklahoma 3-2 in nine innings in the NCAA Norman Regional opener. The Sooners came through the loser's bracket to take the regional and swept Auburn in the Super Regional to advance to the Women's College World Series.
Five schools were represented on the Academic All-League Team, led by Western Illinois with three representatives. 2017 regular-season champion IUPUI and tournament champion North Dakota State each received two honorees. Omaha and South Dakota State each had one student-athlete named to the team.
To be eligible for The Summit League Academic All-League Team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions. The Softball Academic All-League Team is made up of the nine student-athletes receiving the most votes.
