AZUSA, Calif. – Bison sophomore Kennedi Sand leads the group of North Dakota State women's track & field athletes competing in the heptathlon after the opening day of competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Wednesday.
Sand (West Fargo, N.D.) recorded personal-best performances in the high jump (5-05.25 / 1.66m) and 200m dash (26.92 seconds) to score 2,833 points through four events. She is 283 points ahead of her previous best first-day score.
NDSU senior Jaelin Beachy also posted a new first-day personal-best score by more than 100 points, racking up 2,806 points through four events. Like Sand, she registered personal-best marks in the high jump (4-10.25 / 1.48m) and the 200m (26.39).
Bison juniors Dakota Wood and Maea Wall scored 2,752 points and 2,692 points, respectively, on Wednesday.
The heptathlon will conclude Thursday.
