LONG BEACH, Calif. – North Dakota State throwers Maddy Nilles and Amanda Anderson headlined a day of strong performances for the Bison women's track & field team at a pair of meets in southern California.
Junior Maddy Nilles added three and a half feet to her hammer throw personal best at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate hosted by Long Beach State, going 212-6 (64.79m) to move up to ninth in the NCAA this season. While Nilles improved her mark that ranks second in school history, Bison sophomore Bailey Retzlaff moved up to No. 8 all-time at NDSU in the hammer with her throw of 189-10 (57.87m).
Freshman Amanda Anderson (Bethel, Minn.) became the only the third Bison woman to ever top 170 feet in the discus, throwing a personal-best 170-7 (51.99m). She ranks 48th in the NCAA this year.
Senior Piper Jensen recorded the best outdoor triple jump by a Bison in eight years, leaping 40-07.75 (12.39m) to move up to fifth in school history. Jensen also won the long jump, jumping 19-06.75 (5.96m).
NDSU senior Alexis Woods won the 400m dash in 55.07 in breezy conditions. Freshman Alyssa Lind took sixth in a season-best 56.90, and Bison senior Deidre Hahn was seventh in 57.27. Woods also posted a season-best 24.44 in the 200m for sixth place.
Senior Courtney Pasiowitz was the runner-up in the shot put with a mark of 52-00.50 (15.86m).
Freshman Daejha Moss was sixth in the long jump at 18-10.75 (5.76m). Freshman Ansley Schug (Woodbury, Minn.) clocked a season-best 14.93 in the 100m hurdles.
At the Bryan Clay Multis in Azusa, Calif., sophomore Kennedi Sand (West Fargo, N.D.) put up 4,652 points in the heptathlon to beat her previous best by 377 points. Senior Jaelin Beachy topped 4,500 points in the heptathlon for the second time in her career, scoring 4,507. Junior Dakota Wood scored a personal-best 4,414.
