NDSU, Omaha Split Summit League Doubleheader

OMAHA, Neb. – North Dakota State won the first game 6-1, but Omaha held on for a 2-1 win in the second as the teams split a Summit League softball doubleheader on Thursday, April 5, at Westside Field at Westbrook.
Due to forecast of snow and cold for Friday, NDSU (21-13, 1-1 SL) and Omaha (14-25, 2-6 SL) are scheduled to close out the three-game series with a single-game at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 7.
Montana DeCamp went 2-for-3 with a home run and four runs batted in to spark the Bison in the opener. Her two-run single in the first inning put NDSU ahead 2-0. The lead increased to 4-0 in the second on Zoe Stavrou's RBI single, while Bre Beatty scored on an error.
Omaha cut the deficit to 4-1 in the top of the fifth inning on Demi Dobbs run-scoring double.
DeCamp had the answer in the bottom of the fifth when she connected for a two-run home run to right center, her first of the season. Zoe Stavrou tied a career-high with three singles in three at-bats and Beatty added a pair of hits.
Jacquelyn Sertic (16-7) tossed a three-hitter and issued one walk for the complete game win. She struck out 12 to reach double-figures for the 11th time this season and 29th in her career.
Laura Roecker (1-6) took the loss for the Mavericks. Roecker struck out five and walked three.
Omaha bounced back in the second game behind the three-hitter by Sydney Hampton. Hampton (9-10) held off a NDSU late inning rally behind several defensive plays. Hampton walked four and struck out two.
The Mavericks scored a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning on a two-run double from Emily Klosterman.
NDSU cut the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth on Dani Renner's lead-off home run. It was Renner's second homer of the season.
The Bison threatened with a two-out double by Vanessa Anderson in the sixth, but Hampton ended the inning with a strikeout. Stephanie Soriano doubled with one out in the seventh, but was cut down at the plate trying to advance on an error.
KK Leddy (4-5) recorded the loss for NDSU. Leddy struck out seven, allowed four hits and walked three.
