NDSU Blanks Stony Brook 7-0 to Close Out FAU/FIU Invitational

BOCA RATON, Fla. – North Dakota State matched a season-high with 13 hits and KK Leddy struck out 10 and recorded her third shutout of the season as the Bison defeated Stony Brook 7-0 at the FAU/FIU Invitational on Sunday, March 10, at FAU Softball Stadium.
North Dakota State (11-11) is scheduled to play Butler (7-9) at 10 a.m. CT on Wednesday, March 13, in Clearwater.
NDSU scored single runs in the second and fourth innings. Zoe Stavrou led off the second with a double and crossed the plate when Cara Beatty reached on an error. The Bison pulled off a squeeze play when Vanessa Anderson's bunt scored Stavrou from third.
North Dakota State broke the game open with four runs in the top of the fifth inning. Maddie Hansen delivered a sacrifice fly, Stavrou came through with a two-run single to center and Stephanie Soriano added an infield RBI single to push the lead to 6-0. Montana DeCamp closed out the scoring with RBI double to right center in the sixth.
KK Leddy (7-6), a senior righty from Middleburg, Fla., locked in and kept Stony Brook (1-6) off the bases. Leddy allowed three hits, walked one and reached double figures in strikeouts for the fourth time in her career. The defense helped too, with a double play in the bottom of the fifth.
Stavrou went 3-for-4, with a double, two RBI and matched her career-high three runs scored, and Soriano went 3-for-3 to spark NDSU. Katie Shoultz and DeCamp both added two hits.
Taylor Pechin (1-1) and Shelbi Denman pitched for Stony Brook with Pechin taking the loss. Pechin had two strikeouts. Jourdin Hering led the Seawolves with two hits and a stolen base.
