NDSU Defeats Seattle 8-1, 9-7 to Extend Win Streak to 16 Games

SEATTLE, Wash. – Maddie Hansen went 5-for-7 with six RBI, a home run and double as North Dakota State won the first game 8-1, then held off host Seattle University 9-7 in the second to take a non-conference doubleheader on Friday, April 5, at Logan Field. The games were part of the Seattle Round-Robin. The Bison have won 16 games in a row.

Rainy weather has revised the schedule. NDSU (26-11) is scheduled to play Santa Clara at 4:30 p.m. CT Saturday, April 6, and Portland State at 12 p.m. CT Sunday, April 7.

North Dakota State used a five-run first inning to pull away from the Red Hawks (24-14) in the first game. Hansen had a two-run single, Vanessa Anderson was hit by pitch and Sam Koehn delivered a two-run single for the Bison, which matched a season-high with 14 hits.

Koehn tripled in a pair of runs in the top of the seventh and then scored on a Montana DeCamp single to close out the scoring. Katie Shoultz, Stephanie Soriano and Hansen all had three hits, while Koehn and DeCamp both added two. Koehn collected a season-high four RBI.

KK Leddy (14-6) scattered seven hits, struck out four and walked one to claim the win. Carley Nance (12-7) took the loss with four strikeouts and a walk for the Redhawks. Cherise Silvan went 3-for-3 with a triple and RBI for Seattle.

North Dakota State bolted out of the gates early with seven runs over the first two innings to take a 7-1 lead. Hansen started with a RBI single and Anderson followed with a two-run base hit in the first. DeCamp led off the second with a solo shot, her fourth home run of the season, and Hansen clubbed a three-run home run, her team-leading eighth.

Seattle stormed back with five runs in the bottom of the third to close the deficit to 7-6. Solo home runs from Lauren Reimers in the sixth inning, her second of the season, and Cara Beatty in the top of the seventh, her seventh, widened the margin. NDSU finished with four home runs in game two.

Paige Vargas and Kara O'Byrne pitched for North Dakota State. O'Byrne shut down the Red Hawks over the final 4.1 innings, allowing five hits and one run with three strikeouts. Hansen, Beatty, Soriano and DeCamp each had two hits for NDSU. Soriano joined Hansen with five hits in the two games.

Andie Larkins (8-3) and Shianne Smith took the mound for Seattle. Smith strike out nine over the final 5.2 innings and allowed five hits. Madison Cathcart went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a home run.
