Moton Adds Shot Put to NCAA Championships Slate

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – North Dakota State University redshirt freshman thrower Akealy Moton improved her shot put school record and locked up a spot at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday evening at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds.
Moton unleashed a toss of 57-01.50 (17.41m) on her first attempt to finish second overall in the meet. The top 12 finishers advance to the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas, on June 5-8.
Moton extended her previous school record mark by three inches.
Bison junior Bailey Retzlaff took 17th in the shot put, throwing 52-05.50 (15.99m). While she won't advance in the shot, Retzlaff is already qualified for the NCAA Championships in the hammer throw.
Junior Bailey DeMar posted a strong performance in the triple jump, with a top mark of 41-06.00 (12.65m) and another jump of 41-05.25 (12.63m). She finished 19th, missing a trip to the NCAA Championships by only eight inches, with 42-2 (12.85m) as the cutoff.
DeMar will enter her senior season ranked fifth all-time at NDSU in the outdoor triple jump.
Kelby Anderson ran a 5,000m personal-best of 16:11.48 to place 23rd. She ends her freshman outdoor season ranked third all-time at NDSU in the 5,000m.
NDSU junior Maggie Schwarzkopf placed 29th in the shot put with a mark of 50-04.00 (15.34m).
The Bison women will send a total of four entries to the NCAA Championships, with Moton in the shot put and javelin, Retzlaff in the hammer throw, and Amanda Levin in the heptathlon.
