FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State men's track & field team will attempt to win its 10th consecutive Summit League outdoor team title at the Summit League Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Macomb, Ill., on May 8-10.
Since joining The Summit League prior to the 2008 season, NDSU has won 10 of a possible 11 team titles in outdoor track & field. The Bison won the championship in their first shot in 2008, and then again each year from 2010-18.
The Bison are joined by Oregon, Liberty and Albany as the only four Division I schools to own current winning streaks of nine or more outdoor conference titles. NDSU won with 259 points last year, beating second-place South Dakota State by 44 points.
The Bison have current league leaders in seven of the 21 events – Payton Otterdahl in the shot put, discus and hammer, Connor Wendel in the 400m hurdles, Brandon Lewis in the long jump, Brendan Artley in the javelin, and Ryan Enerson in the decathlon. NDSU has an athlete ranked in the league's top five in all but three events.
Otterdahl will be attempting to defend his league title in the shot put (champion in 2018), win his second conference title in the discus (champion in 2016), and capture his first league crown in the hammer throw.
The Bison have the top four shot putters in the league this season, and four of the top five performers in the hammer throw. NDSU also owns three of the top five men's entries in the steeplechase.
Men's competition begins at 11 a.m. on Wednesday with the decathlon 100m dash, and the men's hammer throw starts at noon. Updates will be available on Twitter (@NDSUTrackField) throughout the meet and on GoBison.com at the conclusion of each day.
