Bison Women Have Huge Day at Trio of Meets, Led by 400m Crew

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The North Dakota State women's track & field team is rounding into form as the Bison prepare to defend their 12 consecutive Summit League indoor team championships. NDSU achieved many personal-best performances and several other significant improvements on Saturday at a trio of meets.
At the Music City Challenge hosted by Vanderbilt University, NDSU's 400m runners led the charge. All four Bison women who entered the 400m dash on Saturday registered indoor personal-best times.
Junior Alyssa Lind ran 56.20 to lead the group, and freshman Nell Graham ran a personal-best 56.42 to win her section. Bison sophomore Grace Zimmerman clocked an overall personal-best of 56.87, and senior Paige Harris finished in 56.91.
Zimmerman, Harris, Graham and Lind also teamed up to clock a season-best and Summit League-leading 3:46.23 in the 4x400m relay.
Bison sophomore Jodi Lipp took fifth in the triple jump at Vanderbilt, posting the second-best indoor mark of her career at 39-08.00 (12.09m). Sophomore Michaela Baker had the second-best meet of her career in the triple jump, going 38-09.50 (11.82m) – in addition to having attempts of 11.81m, 11.80m, and 11.77m Saturday.
At Washington's Husky Classic in Seattle, the Bison women finished 2-3-6-7-8 in the shot put. Sophomore Akealy Moton was second overall and the top collegian, throwing 57-00.75 (17.39m). She is ranked third in the NCAA this season.
Senior Maggie Schwarzkopf took sixth place in the shot put with a season-best mark of 49-10.50 (15.20m). Sophomore Amanda Anderson threw a shot put personal-best of 48-07.25 (14.81m).
Junior Peyton Frolek ran the third-fastest 800m of her indoor career, finishing in 2:12.44 at Washington. NDSU's Katie Bye recorded the second-fastest indoor 800m of her career, running 2:13.21.
Sophomore Erin Valgardson nearly set a mile personal-best for the second week in a row, running 4:59.56.
Back in Nashville, sophomore Brynnan Covington (9:55.75) and senior Melina Kuerschner (9:57.95) both went under 10 minutes in the 3,000m for the first time. They both cut 14 seconds off their previous personal-bests.
Junior Ansley Schug clocked a personal-best 8.88 seconds in the 60m hurdles at Vanderbilt. Senior Klara Lyon was the top Bison in the pole vault, clearing 12-08.00 (3.86m).
At the SDSU Indoor Classic in Brookings, S.D., junior Katie Heilman ran personal-bests in the 60m dash (7.87 seconds) and 200m dash (25.68).
