LAWRENCE, Kan. – One day after demolishing the North Dakota State hammer throw record and establishing himself on the national scene in that event, Alex Talley put on another show in the shot put.
Talley registered a huge personal-best of 66-3 (20.19m) in the outdoor shot put, winning Kansas's Rock Chalk Classic and ranking third in the nation this season.
Bison freshman Maxwell Otterdahl threw 189-1 (57.64m) in the discus Saturday, moving up to No. 2 in school history and into the top 20 performers in the NCAA this season. He finished as the top collegian in the meet.
Talley and Otterdahl now both stand at No. 2 all-time at NDSU in those respective events, trailing only former Bison national champion Payton Otterdahl.
Talley led an NDSU sweep of the top three places in the shot put. Kristoffer Thomsen was the runner-up at 63-02.25 (19.26m), and Maxwell Otterdahl was third at 61-01.50 (18.63m).
Bison freshman Trent Davis clocked a wind-aided 13.98 in the 110m hurdles, taking fourth place in the meet. Due to the excessive favorable wind, it won't count in the record books but is still the fastest time of Davis's career.
Alex Brosseau (10.70) and Dante White (10.73) placed seventh and eighth in the 100m dash with wind-aided times.
Battling those same tough winds for a full lap, NDSU still turned in some good performances in the 400m dash. Adrian Harris (48.03), Darrien Lipscomb (48.20), and Josh Knutson (outdoor PR 49.58) were the top finishers for the Bison.
NDSU senior decathlete Tony Ukkelberg notched his third personal-best mark of the meet, throwing 154-4 (47.04m) in the discus after setting PRs in the javelin and pole vault on Friday.
