COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The North Dakota State University men's track & field team sent three qualifiers through to the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Wednesday, the opening day of the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds.
Alex Talley (hammer throw),
Benji Phillips (javelin), and
Kristoffer Thomsen (shot put) all earned trips to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 9-12 by finishing in the top 12 of their respective events on Wednesday.
Talley launched 226-8 (69.10m) on his final attempt in the hammer throw to take fourth place. He also qualified for the national meet in the hammer as a sophomore in 2019.
Phillips took fifth in the javelin, throwing 228-6 (69.64m) to earn the first NCAA Championships appearance of his career.
Thomsen punched his ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Championships for the second time in his career, taking seventh place in the shot put at 63-10.50 (19.47m).
The Bison nearly added a fourth NCAA qualifier in the throwing events. Freshman
Maxwell Otterdahl finished 13th in the shot put, throwing 62-03.25 (18.98m) – missing a trip to the national meet by one place and only three centimeters.
Junior
Trevor Otterdahl finished 21st in the hammer throw with a mark of 203-6 (62.02m). He ends the season ranked fifth all-time at NDSU for the hammer.
Jacob Rodin clocked a personal-best 1:49.60 in the 800m, moving up to No. 4 on the NDSU all-time list. He placed 23rd in the meet after entering ranked 40th in the West.

Ty Ogren threw 202-11 (61.86m) in the javelin, finishing 25th and topping his No. 35 ranking entering the meet.
Bison hurdler
Trent Davis wrapped up his first outdoor season, clocking a time of 14.11 in the 110m hurdles to place 37th overall. He already ranks fifth-fastest in NDSU history with three outdoor seasons remaining in his career.
Adrian Harris ran 47.78 in the 400m dash, placing 38th in his NCAA Prelims debut. He ranks third-fastest in NDSU history after his first outdoor season.
The NCAA West Prelims will continue over the next three days, with the women competing on Thursday and Saturday, and the men concluding on Friday.
