ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The North Dakota State softball team closed out the Lobo Classic on Sunday with a 9-1 win in five innings over Tarleton State at Lobo Softball Field.
The Bison (10-4) jumped out to an early lead and never trailed, scoring the first seven runs of the game.
Cameryn Maykut put the Bison in front with a single to score
Molly Gates in the top of the first.
In the second inning,
Emilee Buringa extend the lead to 3-0 with a two-RBI single to score
Nicole Licea and
Skylar Padgett.
Carley Goetschius would pick up the first two of her three RBIs in the game in the third inning. Goetschius singled up the middle to bring around Maykut and
Avery Wysong, extending NDSU's lead to 5-0.
In the fourth inning, Goetschius brought around Maykut with a double down the left-field line. She then came around to score on a single from
Kaylee Moore to extend the Bison lead to 7-0.
It would be more than enough for freshman
Savy Williams, as she allowed just one run on two hits and two walks in four innings of work. Williams improved to 3-2 on the season.
After Tarleton (11-3) scored a run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth,
Dez Cardenas would put the Bison up by eight runs with a two-run homer in the top of the fifth.
Lainey Lyle would make her second appearance of the weekend in the bottom of the fifth, pitching a scoreless inning to secure the run-rule victory.
The Bison finished the Lobo Classic at 3-2 and will now set their focus on the Amy S. Harrison Classic in Riverside, California on March 4-6.
