NDSU Opens Florida Trip Against Maine

THIS WEEK
The North Dakota State (6-6) baseball team is set for a three-game series against Maine (2-7) at the Russmatt Central Florida Invitational in Winter Haven, Fla., at Chain of Lakes Stadium. The Bison will open the series against the Black Bears on Friday at Noon CT.

LAST TIME OUT
Jack Simonsen connected on two home runs to lift NDSU past Minnesota, 5-2, on Tuesday night at U.S. Bank Stadium. Simonsen went 3-of-4 at the plate with two home runs and one double. He also totaled a career-high five RBI with two runs. Riley Johnson (1-0) made his season debut and earned the win tossing two strikeouts over 2.0 innings. Skyler Riedinger picked up his second save of the season finishing the final inning with one strikeout.
WEST COAST WIN
NDSU earned its first win over a top 25 opponent since 2016 after edging then-ranked No. 25/RV Long Beach State, 5-4. Max Loven (1-1) picked up the win firing a season-high eight strikeouts with no walks over 6.1 innings. Tristen Roehrich registered his second save of the season with one strikeout over the final 2.2 innings.
The Bison totaled 10 hits as a team with eight different players contributing at least one. Peter Brookshaw set the pace with two hits and two RBI, while Brock Anderson added in two hits and two runs.
BROOKSHAW BY THE NUMBERS
Peter Brookshaw has notched at least one hit in each of his last seven games and enters the weekend on a team-best eight-game reached base streak. Over the last seven games, Brookshaw has registered a .462 batting average with a team-high 12 hits and nine RBI.
STEALING THOSE BASES
The Bison have stolen 23 bases this season, which ranks 36th in the nation. NDSU has 10 different players that have registered at least one stolen base this season with Calen Schwabe leading the way with a team-high five.
SCOUTING MAINE
Maine enters the weekend with a 2-7 overall record and are 1-3 over the last four games. In their most recent contest, the Black Bears fell short at George Washington, 12-4. Quinn McDaniel sets the pace for Maine with a .306 batting average and team-high 11 hits. Brett Erwin has totaled a team-high 21 strikeouts on the mound with a 3.50 ERA over three starts.
THE SERIES VS. MAINE
This will be the first meeting between Maine and NDSU since the 2016 season when the Bison overcame a 3-2 deficit to steal a 4-2 win over the Black Bears at the Snowbird Classic. Zach Mayo fired a team-best eight strikeouts over 4.2 innings on the mound. NDSU leads the all-time series, 2-0.
