COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The North Dakota State softball team fell to the University of Maryland 5-3 Sunday morning in the Capital City Classic and non-conference finale at Maryland Softball Stadium.
The hosts jumped out to an early lead with a four-run first inning the featured a home run and a steal of home.
The Bison would respond immediately with three runs in the third after loading the bases with one out.
Cameryn Maykut hit a two-RBI single to left, scoring
Emilee Buringa and
Molly Gates.
Reanna Rudd then hit a single to center, scoring
Dez Cardenas to cut the deficit to 4-3.
However, the Bison would be unable to score again, despite loading the bases in the sixth with one out.
Maryland would add a run in the fourth with an RBI double for the final run of the game.
Maykut was the only Bison with multiple hits, finishing the game 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs. Rudd and Gates each finished with a hit and a walk.
Mac Schulz picked up the loss, allowing five runs in six innings of work.
With the loss, the Bison's win streak was snapped at five games to close out non-conference play for the 2022 season.
NDSU will return to action on Saturday in Vermillion, South Dakota, as the Bison begin Summit League play with a doubleheader at the University of South Dakota on March 26.
