NDSU Baseball Drops 8-6 Decision at Sacramento State

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The North Dakota State baseball team dropped an 8-6 decision at Sacramento State on Saturday afternoon at John Smith Field.
Stephen Lund got the scoring started using a sacrifice fly to center field to send Cadyn Schwabe home to make the score 1-0. NDSU (0-2) then added on two more runs in the third after Druw Sackett smashed a two RBI home run to left field to stretch the lead to 3-0. After the Hornets (2-0) scored a run in the third, Sackett continued to swing a hot bat in the fifth inning after he connected on his second home run of the game to left field. The two RBI shot increased the advantage to 5-1.
The Hornets fought back in the bottom half of the fifth plating four runs on three hits to tie the contest, 5-5, after Jeffery Heard notched a two RBI home run. Sacramento State then stole momentum adding two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to open up an 8-5 lead. Schwabe attempted to get a late rally started for the Bison after he blasted an RBI triple into right field to score Jack Steil to cut the deficit down to two, 8-6. NDSU wasn't able to get anything going the rest of the way and dropped the contest, 8-6.
Max Loven made the start on the mound and tossed a game-high four strikeouts over 4.2 innings. Carson Jacobs (0-1) picked up the loss in his Bison debut and finished the final 3.0 innings with three strikeouts.
The Bison totaled five hits as a team. Sackett led the way with four RBI and two home runs.
NDSU will wrap up its series with Sacramento State tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m. CT.
