SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – North Dakota State softball's
Paige Vargas has been named the TicketSmarter Summit League Softball Peak Pitcher of the Week, League officials announced on Monday.
Vargas had a strong week in the circle for the Bison at the Auburn University hosted Plainsman Invitational. In her first game of the week, Vargas posted a complete game shutout against Brown University, scattering three hits and a walk with seven strikeouts over seven innings.
The Mission Viejo, California native came back the following day and faced No. 20 Auburn where she threw six innings with seven strikeouts and forced the Tigers into four doubles plays.
Overall, she had 14 strikeouts in 13 innings and limited opposing batters to a .180 batting average.
The award is the first for Vargas and the Bison this season and the second career honor for the senior.
Vargas and the rest of the Bison will be back in action this weekend at the Blues City Classic, hosted by the University of Memphis in Tennessee.
