SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State scored six runs in the eighth inning to edge the North Dakota State baseball team, 8-7, on Friday night at Bobcat Ballpark.
After both teams battled through three scoreless innings to begin the contest,
Peter Brookshaw sparked the Bison (1-12) in the fourth frame with an RBI single up the middle to make the score 1-0.
Druw Sackett followed it up in the next at bat with a two-run home run to stretch the edge to 3-0.
Stephen Lund capped off the big frame with a two-run home run of his own to increase the lead to 5-0.
The Bobcats (8-5) answered in the fifth inning with a two-run home run to pull within three, 5-2.
James Dunlap responded with his first career home run in the sixth. The two RBI shot to extended the edge to 7-2. However, the Bobcats then erupted in the eighth inning with five hits, including four home runs to push across six runs to steal the lead, 8-7. NDSU couldn't get anything going in the final frame and dropped the contest, 8-7.
The Bison tallied eight hits as a team, including three home runs. Dunlap went 2-of-3 at the plate with two runs and two RBI.
Cade Feeney made the start and tossed a career-high nine strikeouts with two runs and one walk over 6.0 innings of work.
Joey Danielson (0-2) picked up the loss and finished the final inning with one strikeout.
NDSU will continue its three-game series at Texas State tomorrow. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
