OXFORD, Miss. – Carley Goetschius had three doubles and three RBIs to lead North Dakota State softball to a 7-1 victory over Samford on Saturday morning at the Ole Miss Softball Complex and the Rebel Invitational.
Goetschius scored on a Bella Dean sacrifice fly in the first to give NDSU (16-11) the lead. The senior then cleared the bases in the second with a double to left center, extending the Bison lead over Samford (11-17) to 4-0. She would add the final run of the game for NDSU in the bottom of the fourth, scoring off the bat of Dean again, as the freshman singled to left.
Dean finished with two hits, one of three Bison with multiple hits in the game, and the two RBIs. She also scored on an RBI double by Kaylee Moore in the third inning. Dean also had the final of five doubles for NDSU.
Emilee Buringa had the other two-hit game for NDSU and scored a pair of runs, the first on the Goetschius bases clearing double and the second on a sacrifice fly by Anjolee Aguilar-Beaucage in the fourth.
Three Bison pitchers contributed to the victory. Savy Williams started and pitched 2.1 scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Piper Reed picked up her first collegiate victory with 2.2 innings of work in relief, allowing an unearned run on two hits with three strikeouts. Lainey Lyle tossed the final two innings scoreless, allowing just one hit with one strikeout.
With the victory, the Bison wrap up non-conference action with wins in 10 of their last 12. NDSU will open up Summit League play at Kansas City next weekend with a doubleheader against the Roos on Saturday, March 25. First pitch is slated for noon in Kansas City.
