TUCSON, Ariz. – The North Dakota State baseball team came up short in 12 innings at Arizona, 7-6, on Saturday afternoon at Hi Corbett Field.
After Arizona (7-3) grabbed a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning following a home run off the bat of Kiko Romero,
Cadyn Schwabe answered for the Bison (1-10) with an RBI single to right field to score
Zach Kluvers and lock the contest, 2-2, in the fifth inning.
NDSU then added on two more runs in the sixth following RBI singles from
James Dunlap and Schwabe to steal the lead, 4-2. Dunlap kept the momentum going for the Bison cracking a two RBI double into left to increase the advantage to 6-2 in the seventh frame.
The Wildcats retaliated in the bottom half of the seventh pushing across four runs to lock the contest, 6-6, after Cameron LaLiberte delivered a two RBI double into left field. The game then went scoreless for next five innings until Garen Caulfield used a sacrifice fly to score Romero for the walk-off win, 7-6.
NDSU totaled 16 hits as a team with eight different players contributing at least one. Schwabe led the way with three hits and two RBI, while Dunlap added a game-best and season-high three RBI with two hits and one run.
Max Loven made the start on the mound with a team-best four strikeouts over 5.0 innings.
Carson Jacobs (0-2) closed out the final 3.0 innings with three strikeouts.
NDSU will conclude its series at Arizona tomorrow. First pitch is set for 11:00 a.m. CT
