Roehrich and Puetz Guide NDSU Baseball Past South Dakota State, 5-4

OMAHA, Neb. – Tristen Roehrich and Parker Puetz combined for a season-high 14 strikeouts to help guide the North Dakota State baseball team past South Dakota State, 5-4, to win the series on Saturday night at Tal Anderson Field.

Peter Brookshaw got the Bison (7-20, 4-2 Summit) off to fast start using an RBI ground out to send Cadyn Schwabe across to make the score 1-0 in the opening frame. Jack Steil followed it up with an RBI single into left field to stretch the lead to 2-0. The Jackrabbits (6-16, 2-4 Summit) responded scoring three runs on four hits to steal the edge, 3-2, after the first inning.

Following a scoreless second frame, Stephen Lund cracked a two-run double into left to regain the lead, 4-3. Druw Sackett then increased the advantage to 5-3 with a solo home run to left field in the fifth inning. The Jackrabbits answered once again in the seventh inning with a solo home run of their own off the bat of Ryan McDonald to make the score 5-4. However, Puetz settled in posting two scoreless frames to help secure the 5-4 victory.

Roehrich (2-4) earned the win on the mound tossing a game-high nine strikeouts over 6.0 innings of work. The West Fargo, N.D., native finished with five scoreless frames after allowing three runs in the opening inning. Puetz (1) picked up his first career save and closed out the final 3.0 innings tying a season-high five strikeouts. The duo combined for the most strikeouts in a single-game since 2019 with a season-high 14.

The Bison connected on seven hits as a team with Lund contributing two hits and a team-best two RBI.
