Softball Drops First League Contest at Western Illinois in Extras

MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois snapped North Dakota State softball's five-game win streak with a 6-5 win in eight innings Saturday afternoon at Mary Ellen McKee Stadium.
 
Western Illinois would capitalize on a hit and an error, before a walk off single, to take game one of the series.
 
The Bison would jump out to an early lead, as Anjolee Aguilar-Beaucage had an RBI single in the first and then scored on a Bella Dean home run in the next at bat. Dean's fifth home run of the season gave NDSU a 3-0 lead.
 
Western Illinois would respond with the next four runs to take the lead, scoring two in the first on a two-out single and two in the second on a home run.
 
Kaylee Moore tied the game with an RBI single to score Aguilar-Beaucage in the third, but Western Illinois regained the lead with a home run in the bottom half.
 
After a pair of scoreless innings, the Bison loaded the bases in the top of the sixth and Skylar Padgett had an RBI grounder, scoring pinch runner Faith Daehlin, to tie the game at 5-5. The Bison were unable to score again in the inning. They would get a runner to third in the seventh with just one out, but were held scoreless again.
 
Piper Reed picked up the loss in relief, going four scoreless with just one hit allowed before the eighth inning. She finished with two strikeouts. Paige Vargas allowed five runs, all earned, in three innings with four strikeouts.
 
Moore and Aguilar-Beaucage were the only Bison with multiple hits, Moore went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Aguilar-Beaucage was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs. Aguilar-Beaucage also extended her stolen base streak to six games.
 
NDSU and Western Illinois will play games two games on Sunday to wrap up the series, beginning with game one at 10 a.m.
