COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – The North Dakota State baseball team scored two runs in the eighth inning to down Oral Roberts, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon at Doc Ross Field.
After two scoreless innings to begin the contest, Oral Roberts (28-11, 13-1 Summit) grabbed a 1-0 advantage after Jake McMurray connected on an RBI ground out.
Peter Brookshaw answered for the Bison (11-25, 7-4 Summit) with an RBI ground out of his own to lock the contest, 1-1, in the third frame.
Carson Hake carried the energy into the fourth driving an RBI single into left field to steal the lead, 2-1. Following three scoreless innings, Oral Roberts tied the game with a solo home run from Matt Hogen to right center to make the score 2-2 in the seventh frame.
NDSU responded in the eighth pushing across two runs on three hits to regain the lead.
James Dunlap started off the frame with an RBI single into right field before
Terrell Huggins finished the inning with another RBI single to right field. The Bison went on to hold off the Golden Eagles the rest of the way to steal the 4-2 win.
Tristen Roehrich made the start on the hill going 6.2 innings with five strikeouts, two runs and one walk.
Skyler Riedinger (1-3) earned his first win of the season tossing one strikeout with no runs over the final 2.1 innings.
NDSU totaled eight hits as a team with six different players notching at least one.
Druw Sackett and
Jack Steil each contributed a team-best two in four at-bats.
NDSU and Oral Roberts will wrap up their three-game series tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
