NDSU Baseball Splits Sunday Doubleheader Against Omaha

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State baseball team split a doubleheader against Omaha on Sunday afternoon after winning the first game, 5-0, and then dropping the finale, 5-3, at Newman Outdoor Field.
In game one, Druw Sackett got the Bison (20-27, 14-6 Summit) off to a fast start with a two-run home run to left field to make the score 2-0. Davis Hamilton then extended the lead to 3-0 sending an RBI single into right field in the fourth frame. NDSU put the game out of reach taking advantage of an error to push across two runs to make the score 5-0 in the eighth. Skyler Riedinger closed out the final inning on the hill sending the Mavericks (20-23, 8-13 Summit) down in order to help the Bison win their ninth straight game, 5-0.
Cade Feeney (6-4) earned the win on the hill tossing seven strikeouts with no runs and no walks over 8.0 innings of work. It marked his second time this season pitching at least 8.0 frames and was his ninth performance with five or more strikeouts this season.
In game two, Omaha quickly raced out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning after Eduardo Rosario connected on two-run single to center field and Mike Boeve added two-run double to center field. NDSU pushed back in the fifth sending across two runs on two hits to cut the deficit in half, 4-2. Sackett got the frame started with an RBI single to center field before Jack Steil capped the inning with an RBI sacrifice fly to center field.
NDSU continued to chip away in the sixth frame after Sackett delivered an RBI sacrifice fly to right field to cut the deficit down to one, 4-3. Omaha answered back in the eighth inning after Cam Frederick sent an RBI single into left field to stretch the lead to 5-3. NDSU attempted to rally in the ninth after Steil got on following a single and Stephen Lund walked, but both were left stranded and the Bison dropped the contest, 5-3.
The Bison notched five hits as team with Peter Brookshaw leading the way going 2-of-3 at the plate with one run.
Tristen Roehrich (5-6) made the start on the mound tossing four strikeouts over 6.0 innings. Parker Puetz also provided one inning of relief with one strikeout.
NDSU will be back in action hosting South Dakota State on Thursday night. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m., at Newman Outdoor Field.
