NDSU Softball Splits Doubleheader With North Dakota

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State softball picked up a doubleheader split with North Dakota on Saturday in Summit League play at Tharaldson Park. The Bison fell to North Dakota 1-0 in game one, but responded with an 8-0 run-rule victory in game two.
The Bison threatened early in game one, getting a base runner to third in the top of the first, but were unable to score. North Dakota responded with a solo home run from Callie Honig in the top of the second for the only run of the game.
Aside from the home run, Piper Reed was strong in the circle for NDSU, allowing just four hits with four strikeouts in the loss. Star Cortez and Chloe Woldruff were held to the only Bison hits in the game, while Zoe King had two walks and Amai Hanta and Rylee Henderson reaching with a walk each.
In game two, the Bison offense was strong from the first inning, as Bella Dean and Woldruff recorded back-to-back RBI doubles to put NDSU in front. Hanta recorded an RBI single in the second to extend NDSU's lead to 3-0.
In the third, Dean started off the inning with a solo home run. Savannah Henzler then batted in two runs on a bases loaded single up the middle. NDSU would add a run in the fourth with Henderson singling to right field before Cortez scored on a throwing error. The Bison capped off the game on the first pitch in the fifth, as Jessica Delatorre hit a home run over the fence in right center to trigger the run-rule win.
Savy Williams was dominant in the circle for the Bison, scattering three hits and just one walk in five innings. Williams recorded two strikeouts. Dean, Woldruff and Delatorre each had two hits in the game.
The Bison will take on North Dakota in the rubber match of the series on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for noon from Tharaldson Park.
