2009-10 SEASON
Indoor (Freshman): Ran the 400 meters in four meets and the 60 meters in one...Posted a season-best time of 50.26 in the 400 meters at the Bill Bergan Invitational...Won his section in the 400 at the Jack Johnson Classic.
Outdoor (Freshman): Specialized in the 200 meters and 400 meters...Tallied four top eight finishes in the 400 meters...Finished second at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays in 49.76...Ran a season-best time of 49.31 in the preliminary round at the Summit League Championships...Finished sixth in the 400 meter final at the league championships in 49.38...Posted a season-best time of 22.83 in the 200 meters at the Bison Open.

HIGH SCHOOL: Graduated from Mounds View HS...Four-year letterwinner in track and field...All-conference honorable mention as a freshman...All-conference honoree and state championships participant as a sophomore...Received All-America honors as part of the state champion 4x400 relay, also on the state champion 4x200 relay as a junior...Named athlete of the year as a senior...Member of back-to-back True Team state, conference, section and state championships teams as a sophomore and junior...Also an all-conference performer in wrestling...Was the state runner-up as a senior...Member of the football team...Went to states as a sophomore and senior.

PERSONAL: Son of Nate and Jan Balzer...Has one brother, Josh, and five sisters, Jessica, Katrina, Nicole, Mara and Rebecca...Father ran track and mother played softball at Northwestern College (Roseville, Minn.)...Sister Jessica runs track at Minnesota Duluth...Majoring in exercise science with a minor in psychology.
