2017-18 SEASON (Sophomore): Wrestled at 157 and 165 pounds ... Compiled a 8-10 record including 0-2 in duals with one pin and two major decisions ... Went 3-2 to finish fourth at Bison Open (11-11-17) ... Put together a 3-2 record at the Reno Tournament of Champions (12-17-17) including both major decisions ... Career record was 14-14 including 0-4 in duals with two pins, two tech falls and two major decisions.

2016-17 SEASON (Freshman): Wrestled at 157 and 165 pounds ... Compiled a 6-4 record including 0-2 in duals ... Claimed two tech falls and one pin ... Filled in at 165 pounds in home duals against Northern Colorado (1-6-17) and Boise State (1-8-17) ... Won 4 of 5 matches to place third at Dragon Open (12-4-16).  

2015-16 SEASON (Redshirt): Competed at 157 pounds, wrestling unattached … Compiled a 16-12 record with three pins, a pair of major decisions and one tech fall ... Placed in four Open tournaments competed in including runner-up showing at the Ridgewater Open (1-9-16) ... Won three of four matches to place third at the North Country Open (1-30-16) ... Went 3-2 to place fourth in the MSU Moorhead Dragon Open / Red Division (12-5-15) ... Finished fifth at the Bison Open (11-14-15) with a 3-2 ledger.

HIGH SCHOOL: Completed senior year with 43-2 record and third place finish at 145 pounds in the 2015 Minnesota Class AA state tournament … Set school single-season records for most wins and most takedowns … Placed fifth at 138 pounds in the 2014 Minnesota Class AA state tournament and rolled up 38-6 record … Two-time MSHSL Section 8AA champion … Two-time academic all-state performer … All-around athlete at Albany that made the North squad for both the football and baseball all-star games.
 
PERSONAL: Son of Robert and Lisa Mergen … Has one brother, Will, and one sister, Faith … Father, Robert, wrestled for St. Cloud State, and cousin, Ben, wrestled at NDSU … Majoring in psychology.
