ELON, N.C.--Amber Garrett hurled a three-hit shutout and hit a three-run home run to lead North Dakota State to 5-0 win over Elon University in the second game as the Bison split a doubleheader with the Phoenix on Tuesday, March 15, at East Field. NDSU lost the first game 3-1.

North Dakota State (12-7) is scheduled to play at Campbell University, N.C. (18-11) at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 16.

Garrett, a junior from Pueblo, Colo., provided the Bison with a lift with her three-run blast with two outs in the first inning of the second game. Amy Hemingson led off with a single advanced to second on a Jen Morse sacrifice bunt and Aimee Enzler walked to set the table for the homer. Garrett added a double to go 2-for-3 as NDSU outhit Elon 8-3.

North Dakota State added a single run in the sixth on Courtney Lacock's RBI-single, while Ashley Leier doubled to lead-off the seventh and scored on a wild pitch. Leier added a single to also finish 2-for-3.

On the mound, Garrett scattered three hits over seven innings to record her third shutout of the season and improve to 5-0. She walked one and struck out two. Elon's Whitney Meeks (3-4) was tagged with the loss, allowing seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

In the opener, Elon (11-12) broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the sixth inning on Sadie Ball's two-run home run to right center. The Bison had taken a 1-0 lead on Lynnae Foshag's solo homer to left on a 0-2 count to start the fourth frame. However, the Phoenix tied the game on Meredith Miley's run-scoring single in the bottom of the fourth. Miley went 3-for-3 to spark Elon which outhit NDSU 6-4.

Foshag, a sophomore from Missoula, Mont., also stroked a double to finish with two hits. Her fourth-inning home run was NDSU's first of the season to snap a 17-game longball drought. Allison Bakke (5-5) recorded the loss. She struck out nine and walked one. Meredith Gay (5-4) picked up the win for the Phoenix. Gay struck out five and walked one.
