FARGO, N.D.--University of North Dakota left-hander Darin Heston threw a three-hit complete game to lift the Fighting Sioux to a 6-0 win over North Dakota State in college baseball Tuesday, April 5, before a crowd of 630 at Newman Outdoor Field.
Heston struck out nine and worked 4 2/3 hitless innings before NDSU designated hitter Brandon Wiebelhaus doubled into the left field corner.
He carried a one-hitter into the ninth before Nathan Thomas and Greg Plecki led off with back-to-back singles.
The Sioux (12-11) scored the only run they needed in the first inning. Leadoff man Tyler Frenzel reached on a fielding error and came around to score on Troy Wasiloski's one-out double to right center.
UND went up 2-0 in the third on an RBI groundout by Chris Gulsvig and tacked on three more runs in the top of the sixth.
Jason Fairchild led off with a single and Blair Mileski walked. One batter later, Bo Stanley singled down the left field line to bring in Fairchild, and Ross Olson's two-out, two-run single up the middle brought in Mileski and Stanley.
Mileski laced his second home run of the season over the right field wall with two out in the ninth for the final margin.
Heston, who improved to 2-2 this year, won his third straight start against NDSU.
Neil Wagner worked five-plus innings for the Bison and took the loss to drop to 1-2 on the season. Wagner allowed four runs on four hits, walked five and struck out one.
North Dakota State (1-19-1) is scheduled to close out its three-game home stand Wednesday, April 6, with a 4 p.m. game against Wisconsin-Superior.
