USC Rallies for 4-3 Walk-Off Win in NDSU Season Opener

LOS ANGELES - Timmy Robinson's two-run single in the ninth inning lifted Southern California to a 4-3 win over North Dakota State in college baseball Friday, Feb. 21, at Dedeaux Field.
Robinson lined a 3-2 pitch with two outs into left field to score Carl Aguirre and Omar Cotto Lozada and give USC (5-0) its third walk-off win in five games. All four runs were unearned against NDSU closer Jay Flaa, who dropped to 0-1 with the loss.
North Dakota State (0-1) got seven scoreless innings from starter David Ernst, who allowed four hits, all singles, with three walks and two strikeouts.
NDSU did all of its scoring with two outs. Aiden Hook and Tim Colwell hit back-to-back two-out singles in the sixth before scoring on Jon Hechtner's triple into the right field corner for a 2-0 lead.
The Bison extended their lead to 3-0 in the eighth. Nick Altavilla led off with a double and pinch runner Andy Wicklund scored on a close play at the plate two outs later on Colwell's single to left field. USC coach Dan Hubbs was ejected arguing the call.
USC closed within 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth when Garrett Stubbs singled and scored on a wild pitch, and Robinson reached on an error and scored on a Dante Flores sacrifice fly.
The Trojans put runners on first and second with one out in the ninth when a possible game-ending double play kicked off the glove of third baseman John Skrbec to load the bases. Flaa got an infield fly for the second out before Robinson's winner.
Game 2 of the series is scheduled for 2 p.m. PT on Saturday and the series finale is at 1 p.m. PT on Sunday.
