Bison Baseball Rolls to Doubleheader Sweep of Winnipeg Saturday Afternoon, 12-1 and 11-3

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State baseball team (19-22) scored a combined 23 runs in a doubleheader sweep of the Winnipeg Wesmen (5-35) Saturday, May 10, at Newman Outdoor Field, coasting to 12-1 and 11-3 victories.
Kyle Kleinendorst went 2-for-2 at the plate with three RBI and his 10th double of the season to pace the NDSU offense in the first game while Michael Leach was also perfect at-bat, going 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI and a double, his fifth overall. Four Bison recorded at least two hits in the game.
On the mound, left-hander Parker Trewin pitched five strong innings to record his sixth win of the season and move to 6-1 overall. The southpaw scattered six hits and allowed an earned run while striking out seven and walking one batter.
In the second contest of the day, Aiden Hook led the Bison batting attack, going a flawless 3-for-3 at the plate with four RBI.
Left-handed pitcher Trent Keefer towed the rubber for six innings in game two, allowing six hits with no earned runs while striking out six and walking zero Wesmen to earn the win and move to 4-4 overall.
In the first game, NDSU scored a pair of runs in the first and second innings before putting the game away in the third with seven runs.
Leach doubled down the right field line, scoring Nick Altavilla and Kleinendorst, before Hook hit a sacrifice fly and Colwell smashed an RBI single to bring the total tally of runs in the third to four. Satzinger delivered another RBI single and Kleinendorst crushed a double down the right field line, plating Satzinger and Jon Hechtner to balloon the inning run total to seven.
The Bison and Wesmen battled the first three innings of game two. The NDSU bats awoke in the fourth inning though as the Bison plated seven runs to quickly jump out to a 7-0 lead.
Altavilla drove in Kleinendorst and John Skrbec was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in another NDSU run. Hook then laced a two RBI single to left field and Colwell delivered an RBI single for the Bison's fifth run of the inning. Wes Satzinger closed out the scoring marathon in the fourth with a two-run single to left center.
With the pair of wins, NDSU improves to 19-22 overall while Winnipeg drops to 5-35 on the season.
The Bison and Wesmen are scheduled to close out the three game series with a single game Sunday, May 11, at Newman Outdoor Field at 1 p.m.
