NDSU Baseball Drops Doubleheader to South Dakota State Friday

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State baseball team (21-24, 9-12 Summit) dropped a Summit League doubleheader to the South Dakota State Jackrabbits (27-26, 11-10 Summit) Friday, May 16, at Newman Outdoor Field. The Jacks won game one, 5-1, before taking the night cap, 6-1.

Kyle Kleinendorst went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the first contest to lead the Bison offense while Aiden Hook also went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Bison southpaw Parker Trewin pitched three innings, allowing four runs, three earned, on three hits while striking out three to take the loss in game one and fall to 6-2 on the season.

Sam Pack paced the Jacks in the first game, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Andrew Clemen pitched 4.2 innings in relief and struck out six to earn the win and improve to 2-2 overall.

In the second game, Tim Colwell went 2-for-4 with a run-batted-in to pace NDSU offensively while Hook also recorded two hits, going 2-for-3, to finish the day 4-for-6 at the plate.

NDSU left-hander Trent Keefer pitched six innings, giving up four runs, two earned, on seven hits while striking out six and walking no batters to suffer the loss in the second game and fall to 4-5 on the season.

Scott Splett, Pack, Reid Clary and Cody Sharrow each tallied a pair of hits to lead the South Dakota State offense and Chad Hodges pitched 7.1 innings, striking out three and allowing one earned run, to post the win for SDSU and improve to 7-5 overall.

With the pair of losses, the Bison fall to 21-24 overall and 9-12 in Summit League play while South Dakota State improves to 27-26 on the season and 11-10 in league action.

The Bison will look to bounce back on Saturday, May 17, when they face the Jackrabbits in a single game at 1 p.m. from Newman Outdoor Field to close out the four-game Summit League series. Saturday's game is Senior Day and is the final home game of the season for NDSU.
