FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State women's track & field team will target its eighth straight outdoor crown and its 16th straight team title overall this week at the Summit League Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Macomb, Ill. The three-day meet will be hosted by Western Illinois University at Hanson Field on May 13-15.
Since the Bison joined The Summit League prior to the 2008 season, there have been 15 league championship track & field meets. All 15 trophies have been captured by the Bison.
Only one women's track & field program in NCAA Division I owns a longer active streak of outdoor titles than NDSU – Jacksonville University of the Atlantic Sun Conference with nine.
The Bison women enter this week's meet with the league's top mark in 11 events, led by junior Erin Teschuk who tops the charts in the 800m, 1500m and 3,000m steeplechase. Teschuk is the defending champion in the steeplechase after winning her first outdoor championship in the event last season as a sophomore.
NDSU's throwers top the league performance list in all four throwing events with Emily Lesser (shot put and hammer throw), Katelyn Weimerskirch (discus) and Sierra Rosenau (javelin) leading the way. Weimerskirch and Rosenau are the defending champions in their respective events.
The Bison own the league's top three performers this season in the 800m run, 400m hurdles, hammer throw, javelin and heptathlon. NDSU also boasts five of the league's top six in the shot put.
In every event in which they have competed this season, the Bison women have an athlete ranked among the league's top eight. In 18 of the 21 events, NDSU's top performer enters the league meet ranked among the top five.
Women's competition begins at 10 a.m. Wednesday with the hammer throw.
