Govig, Teschuk Win Titles as NDSU Women Extend Lead at Summit League Championships

VERMILLION, S.D. – The North Dakota State women's track & field team added a pair of individual titles on the second day of the Summit League Outdoor Track & Field Championships and extended its lead in the team race going into the final day.
The eight-time defending champion Bison have 166 points through nine completed events. South Dakota stands in second with 96.5 points.
Senior Ann Govig captured her first individual league title, leading a Bison sweep of the top four places in the heptathlon. Govig used strong showings in the javelin and 800m on Friday to rally for the victory, finishing with 4,712 points. NDSU junior Rose Jackson was the runner-up with 4,685 points, sophomore Amanda Levin took third with 4,635, and junior Lexy Boschee claimed fourth with 4,560.
Govig also came back later in the day to earn a runner-up finish in the high jump, clearing 5-07.00 (1.70m).
All-American Erin Teschuk claimed her third straight Summit League 3000m steeplechase crown, winning with a time of 10:18.14. NDSU junior Taylor Janssen took second in the steeplechase in 10:37.70, giving the Bison a 1-2 finish.
The Bison women finished 2-3-4-5-7 in the shot put with Courtney Pasiowitz, Katelyn Weimerskirch, Kelsey Laufenberg, Shelby Gunnells and Jordyn Thornton to add 25 more team points.
Boschee took fourth in the high jump with a clearance of 5-05.00 (1.65m). The NDSU women placed two in the long jump, as Jackson finished sixth with a mark of 18-05.25 (5.62m), and Levin was eighth at 18-04.25 (5.59m).
In addition to the final events contested on Friday, the Bison women also put themselves in position to score big on the track on Saturday. In the 400m dash, Alexis Woods, Morgan Milbrath and Deidre Hahn all advanced to the final. Senior Melissa Kitching was the fastest qualifier to the 400m hurdles final, with Levin joining her in advancing.
Jenny Guibert and Amy Andrushko both cruised to qualifying spots for the 800m final. Rose Jackson advanced in the 100m dash (11.90) and 200m dash (25.11), with sophomore Gabby Grommesh joining her in the 100m and Milbrath in the 200m.
Boschee (14.57) and freshman Dakota Wood (14.71) both qualified for the 100m hurdles final, clocking wind-aided season bests.
The Summit League Outdoor Championships will conclude Saturday, beginning with the women's discus and triple jump at 11 a.m.
