LAWRENCE, Kan. – North Dakota State senior All-American Erin Teschuk earned a trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 3,000m steeplechase for the second straight year, posting the second-fastest qualifying time at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds on Friday afternoon.
Teschuk clocked a season-best 10:02.26 to win her qualifying heat and lock up a spot in the national semifinals. Friday was only her second time running the steeplechase this season, as she progresses toward the NCAA Championships and the Canadian Olympic Trials in early July. The NCAA Outdoor Championships will be held in Eugene, Ore., on June 8-11.
Teschuk placed fifth at the national meet in the steeplechase as a junior one year ago. She is a six-time first-team All-American across indoor track, outdoor track and cross country.
Bison senior Ann Govig had an impressive finish in the high jump at the NCAA West Prelims. She entered the meet ranked 42nd, but finished in a tie for 14th place after clearing a lifetime-best 5-09.25 (1.76m). Govig is now tied for fourth all-time at NDSU in the outdoor high jump.
With the top 12 in each event advancing to the NCAA Championships in Oregon, Govig missed out on a berth by only two places.
Senior Sierra Rosenau finished 13th in the javelin to lead a trio of Bison women in the event. Rosenau's best throw for the day measured 161-5 (49.21m), coming up three inches shy of 12th place and a bid to the NCAA Championships.
Sophomore Alyssa Olin took 25th in the javelin at 152-8 (46.55m), and freshman Keyawna Larson placed 38th with a mark of 143-8 (43.78m) after entering the meet ranked 48th in the region.
In the women's hammer throw, junior Katelyn Weimerskirch and sophomore Hannah Frost both outperformed their pre-meet rankings by three places. Weimerskirch took 17th place with a throw of 196-6 (59.89m), and Frost was 24th with a mark of 191-6 (58.37m).
NDSU senior Melissa Kitching (59.12) and junior Morgan Milbrath (59.58) placed 21st and 26th, respectively, in the 400m hurdles.
Senior Brittany Stangl cleared 13-00.25 (3.97m) in the pole vault for 30th place.
Action at Rock Chalk Park was suspended during the women's discus competition on Friday night, with Flight 3 scheduled to resume at 9 a.m. Saturday. The women's shot put was moved to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
