NDSU Splits at Ragin’ Cajun Invitational

LAFAYETTE, La. – North Dakota State blanked Alcorn State 7-0, but fell to No. 18-ranked Louisiana 15-0 in five innings on Saturday, March 4 at the Ragin' Cajun Invitational at Lamson Park.
NDSU (5-13) is scheduled to close out tournament play against Texas A&M Corpus Christi (4-10) at 9 a.m. Sunday, March 5.
Jacquelyn Sertic (4-9) tossed her third shutout of the season, a three-hitter against Alcorn State (3-11). Sertic struck out 13, one shy of her career best, to reach double-figures for the third time this season and ninth time in her career.
North Dakota State jumped out in front 3-0 in the first inning. Bre Beatty stroked a two-run single, while Montana DeCamp laced a RBI double to left center.
The Bison extended the lead to 5-0 in the second on the strength of Vanessa Anderson's two-run home run to right. It was Anderson's second home run of the season.
NDSU closed out the scoring in the fourth. Madyson Camacho reached on a bunt single and ensuing throwing error pushed Lauren Reimers across the plate. Zoe Stavrou's ground out chased home Camacho, who went 2 for 4 with a double to lead the Bison.
Madi Creed (1-3) recorded the loss for Alcorn State. Creed struck out two and walked four. Taylor Hughes had a double and single for ASU.
Hard-hitting No. 18-ranked Louisiana jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Kelli Martinez went 3 for 3 with three RBI and Lexie Comeaux 2 for 3 with a home run, four RBI and three runs scored to lead the Ragin' Cajuns. Kassidy Zeringue also went 2 for 2 with three runs scored.
KK Leddy (1-4) and Sertic pitched for North Dakota State with Leddy picking up the loss. Vanessa Anderson had the lone base hit for the Bison.
Alex Stewart (5-2), Macey Smith and Kylee Jo Trahan pitched for Louisiana with Stewart recording the win. The pair combined to strike out five and walk one.
