NDSU Women Go Big in Shot Put at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa – The North Dakota State women's track & field team put together its best shot put performance of the season Friday night, placing three athletes in the top five and four athletes in the top seven at the Drake Relays.
Senior Courtney Pasiowitz earned runner-up honors in the shot put, throwing a season-best 53-09.75 (16.40m) that ranks among the top 25 in the NCAA this year. Sophomore Bailey Retzlaff threw a career-best 52-08.00 (16.05m) to take third in the meet and rank third all-time at NDSU.
Junior Shelby Gunnells placed fifth in the shot put with an outdoor personal-best 51-05.75 (15.69m) that ranks her fourth in NDSU history. Maggie Schwarzkopf took seventh for the Bison with a mark of 49-07.25 (15.12m).
Senior Lauren Gietzen was the Drake Relays runner-up in the pole vault, clearing 13-03.50 (4.05m).
Katie Bostrom, Alyssa Lind, Katie Bye and Peyton Frolek teamed up to take sixth place in the 4x800m relay. Their time of 8:58.45 ranks 10th-fastest in NDSU history.
Lind, Alexis Woods, Frolek and Deidre Hahn clocked a season-best and Summit League-leading 3:44.07 in the 4x400m relay prelims to qualify fourth-fastest to tomorrow's final.
Senior Piper Jensen placed third in the long jump with a mark of 19-08.00 (5.99m). Bison sophomore Bailey DeMar went 18-05.00 (5.61m) for 12th place, and freshman Daejha Moss jumped 18-04.50 (5.60m) for 14th.
Freshman Kari Wolfe (Harvey, N.D.) placed third in the javelin, throwing 144-10 (44.16m). Junior Maddy Nilles (Sherrill, Iowa) finished fifth in the discus with a throw of 161-3 (49.14m).
Also competing in the javelin, senior Kayla Hochhalter took fifth place with a mark of 140-2 (42.72m), and sophomore Kaitlyn Smith was ninth with her throw of 133-8 (40.74m).
