Three Runner-Up Finishes Keep Bison Women in Lead at Summit League Championships

TULSA, Okla. – The North Dakota State women's track & field team recorded three runner-up finishes on Friday at the Summit League Outdoor Championships, maintaining its lead in the team race.
The Bison top the team standings after nine completed events with 139 points. South Dakota stands in second with 118 points, and South Dakota State is third with 44.
Senior Jaelin Beachy was the runner-up in the heptathlon, sophomore Bailey Retzlaff took second in the discus, and freshman Daejha Moss finished second in the high jump on Friday for NDSU.
The Bison women brought home 20 team points in the heptathlon, with Beachy leading the way in second place with a personal-best score of 5,007 points that ranks her eighth in NDSU history. Sophomore Kennedi Sand put together a stellar performance as well, taking third place with 4,989 points to rank No. 9 all-time at NDSU.
Sophomore Macy Denzer finished sixth in the heptathlon with 4,630 points, junior Maea Wall was seventh with a personal-best 4,577, and junior Dakota Wood was eighth with 4,322.
Retzlaff earned runner-up honors in the discus, throwing a personal-best 166-8 (50.82m) to rank fourth in NDSU history. Freshman Amanda Anderson earned All-Summit-League honors with a third-place finish in the discus, throwing 164-1 (50.02m).
Moss cleared a season-best 5-07.75 (1.72m) in the high jump to finish second. Sand and Deidre Hahn were sixth and seventh, respectively.
Junior Annika Rotvold placed fourth in the steeplechase, running a personal-best 11:02.28 that ranks eighth in school history. Sophomore Alaysia Freetly came through with a fifth place finish for the Bison in the steeplechase in a personal-best 11:12.62 that ranks 10th all-time at NDSU.
Senior Piper Jensen matched her personal-best in the long jump, going 20-01.00 (6.12m) for fifth place, and sophomore Bailey DeMar had a wind-aided PR of 19-08.25 (6.00m) for seventh.
The Bison women also positioned themselves to rack up more points in Saturday's finals with a strong showing in Friday's preliminary rounds on the track.
Alexis Woods and Alyssa Lind are the two fastest qualifiers to tomorrow's 400m dash final, with Hahn also advancing for the Bison. Woods qualified third-fastest to the 200m dash final, running a season-best 24.19.
Wall (1:04.76), Wood (1:04.96) and sophomore Paige Harris (1:05.16) all advanced among the top five to the finals of the 400m hurdles. Beachy continued her great weekend, qualifying for the finals of the 100m hurdles in 14.45.
Peyton Frolek and Katie Bostrom both qualified for the finals of the 800m.
The Summit League Outdoor Championships conclude Saturday.
